it's nandra. they also call her nashz, the history of such name is way too long to elaborate in this little space. she's seventeen. she's a she. she lives a typical metropolitan lifestyle in the capital of Indonesia. she's currently in her senior year of high school, enduring the second and last year of IB Diploma Programme that's totally ruining her life slowly. but she thinks the whole suffering would give her some sort of advantage in the (scarily) near future. she's a CISVer and lovin' every bit of it. oh, she also very much enjoys mango juice, she'd even prefer it than OJ haha. and while we're at it, yes, she might be random from time to time. she wishes you'd be quite patient about it. :)

grawh.

why is it that one moment i'm looking forward for the new year, the next it just felt like any other ordinary day.
is it because i've passed so many new years before? that it doesn't matter much anymore?
or is it because i think that it means so many things has passed me by and with the new year even more things will start to slip through my fingers?
or i just dont want to embrace the future? not even wanting to wait and see for what comes next; because unpredictability sucks.
or is it because the same resolutions over and over again -- 'coz last year's resolution was a complete failure?
or is it just because some things dont go the way i expected it to, and the next year would be another series of dissapointment?
or is it because it means that i'll grow older and people would expect more from me, but then again i couldnt put forward that expectation? yet another dissapointment.
or am i just ungrateful of life?

i dont know why i'm posting in such a sombre mood. i mean, new year's suppose to be festive and i love festivity. hmmm. well i hope it's just the sudden flu =S

well don't let me be the rain on your parade people. go enjoy your new year's eve! :)

quick updates before the new year :)

i've indulged myself with books, movies and music a lot this past holiday. and i thought i'd share it with you guyz before the year ends haha. i'm not gonna make a long long review like i did last time, this time i'm just gonna let you judge on your own! haha :)

ok lets hit it!
i'm gonna start with movies:

1) Love Me if You Dare (Jeux d'enfants)
Directed by: Yann Samuell
Starring: Marianne Cotillard, Guillaume Cannet

a delightful french movie :)
alvie recommended me this movie while we went dvd hunting yesterday :p
it's such a cute cute romantic movie. it tells the story of two life-long friends, sophie and julien. they invented a game called 'Dare', which is basically like truth or dare but the only option is dare. it started as an innocent child's game at first, but as they grow older the game plays around with their lovelifes and future.

the ending was a bit confusing though and rather unrealistic. but maybe it was supposed to be that way :)

fave quotes:
Julien Jeanvier: You know... there were lots of things I was game for that you never said.
Sophie Kowalski: Like?
Julien Jeanvier: Eating ants... insulting the unemployed... loving you like crazy.
[they kiss]

Julien Jeanvier: [as Julien is fleeing from the police] Sophie was back in the game! Pure, raw, explosive pleasure! Better than drugs, better than smack! Better than a dope-coke-crack-fix-shit-shoot-sniff-ganja-marijuana-blotter-acid-ecstasy! Better than sex, head, 69, orgies, masturbation, tantrism, Kama Sutra or Thai doggy-style! Better than banana milkshakes! Better than George Lucas's trilogy, the muppets and 2001! Better than Emma Peel, Marilyn, Lara Croft and Cindy Crawford's beauty mark! Better than the B-side to Abbey Road, Jimmy Hendrix and the first man on the moon! Space Mountain, Santa Claus, Bill Gates' fortune, the Dalai Lama, Lazarus raised from the dead! Schwarzenegger's testosterone shots, Pam Anderson's lips! Woodstock, raves... Better than Sade, Rimbaud, Morrison and Castaneda! Better than freedom, better than life!

2) Purple Violets
Directed by: Edward Burns
Starring: Selma Blair, Debra Messing, Edward Burns

just watched this haha. it's quite a nice movie, i spose. i think it's rather slow though. but i think it's a sweet love story.

its about how two best friends, Kate (Debra Messing) and Patti (Selma Blair) met their ex boyfriends back when they were in college one day at a restaurant. patti's marriage and career was pretty much on a limbo, so she got close to her ex. meanwhile, kate was a bit reluctant to let hers back in. and so begin the journey of rekindling love.

the movie could be a bit boring at times but the story is pretty cool :)
and the soundtracks seems pretty awesome as well haha.

3) Centerstage: Turn it Up
Directed by: Steven Jacobson
Starring: Rachele Brook Smith, Kenny Wormald

a Step Up-ish movie. it's about dance and all. the dances are cool, really, a mix of ballet and hip-hop. and the guy in this movie is actually a ballet dancer -- with leotards and shit. hahahah. the downside about this movie is that the storyline is a bit blurry. like, i didn't know how Kate's relationshiop was with her dad and such. but i do like the message though, how even though one door is closed, there'll always be another open window. so we shouldn't give up at first try. :)

and i just knew that it's actually a sequel. haha

okaaay that didn't seem like a quick update but... moving ooooon

i found this cool NZ artist from NYLON mag: Ladyhawke.

her songs are pop with a touch of 70s or 80s (?) disco-esque sound. it's a nice listen really! i find her to be like alphabeat but from the past two decades. haha. my fave song from her so far is Paris is Burning. there's a french version to that too btw, Paris s'enflammes. i like the french one better though hahahaha. her CD's available in aksara actually, but it's important so it's quite pricey =S but she's worth a listen! her other song i like is My Delirium.

yeah well anyways, go check it out! hahaha

okaaaay, that didn't seem quick haha. but wth!
have a nice new year's eve! :)

so this is it, then?

i just looked at the calendar and oh my fuck, is it the 30th of december already?? i mean. is this it? hmm, seems real fast. it's been months since my summer camp (miss you loaaaads, btw <333 )
since the new year is 'round the corner, that means that i've passed this christmas holiday for like... three weeks now. and two more weeks until i have to get my ass back to school. omfg. i hate this :(
coz i still haven't finish lord of the flies (sparknotes save meeeeee!) and my econs IA (AAAAGGGHH CURSE YOU WALL STREET!!).

well anyways.
let us not speak futher of insipid, loathsome things!
let me share with yous out there of what i've been doing this past holidaaay! woot woot

well so anyways. i read a VERY GOOD book. i've been struggling to find good books to read. i've been so hooked to sarah dessen that i've nearly always compare other books -- just from the synopsis -- to hers. which is... well has the downsides. but whatever. i found a good book by a good author and it's caaaalled:

Looking for Alaska by John Green

AMAZING. yeah.
it's a very recommended book, especially for all yous in high school. the novel,  i'd
like to describe it as very, well, high school. haha.

to elaborate it more specifcally, in the novel there is the principal whom the whole entire class just abhors, the wise teacher (which is somehow also loathed by the students even though said teacher is wise), the pranksters, the unrequited love, the genius(es), the booze and cigarettes etc etc etc.

the novel tells the story of Miles "Pudge" Halter, who, back in Florida was socially challanged. but in Culver Creek, a boarding school in Alabama, he quickly made friends with Chip a.k.a the Colonel -- on scholarship, complete genius, yet far from being a nerd (lose that big glasses and neatly-tucked in shirt stereotype and replace with milk-and-vodka beverage and cigarettes -- there you have it: the Colonel) and of course: Alaska Young. "clever, funny, sexy, self-destructive, screwed up, and utterly fascinating" Alaska Young. aside from those two friends, Pudge also got acquainted to cigarettes and lots and lots of booze. anyways, this novel tells Pudge's life story before and after a tragedy that changes everything. a tragedy in which i will not spill in this post coz i'm not about to ruin the whole book to you! ha!

well anyways, what i find unique in this novel is how John Green structured the story. the book is divided into two parts: before and after. it really shows how one event that occurs in the course of one night or maybe less -- minutes, seconds -- can change everything. turn the whole thing upside down. make you freefall from up above flat face on the ground. most importantly, it shows clearly how things change, by showing how it was before and how things just isn't the same after. it might not make a lot of sense right now, but once you read the book, you'll totally get it haha. :)

i also love how the book is honest about how high school life is. apparently, booze and cigarettes can't be seperated by (some) high school students. i mean admit it, for once in your high school life, we do come across those stuffs right?? not that it's good or anything, but it's just the truth. dunno if you agree with me or not on this one, but it's just my opinion haha.

well anyways, this novel is definitely recommended :)
it's one of those books that can make you laugh yourself silly then break a dam of tears when you turn to the next page.

aaagh, i want to write something bout a french movie i just watched! aaagh. too lazy and too late!
i'd problly write it tomorrow!

gnite people!
spend the rest of '08 wisely! haha :)

now, where's the yuletide spirit?

i don't celebrate christmas. but i like the idea of pretty lighted up christmas trees and presents under it stuffs. oh and santa claus. i mean, how can you not like the idea of a guy who weighs approx. 300 pounds yet can manage to slide down the chimney?? haha. oh don't forget rudolph the red nosed raindeer. he's just adorable haha.

well anyways, i like christmas. it's festive. and you gotta love festivity. :p
but i haven't felt the so-called yuletide spirit though. haha, yeah go figure. i tried to think of the things that i like to do and/or like about christmas.

i like the tree and the ornaments and stuffs but it's just a nuisance to have it in the house.
i can't expect presents, my parents would have a total fit about that.
i can't wait for santa to come, i got no chimney (which makes me wonder, how does santa gives presents to kids living in apartments? the laundry chute probly?? hmm...)

then i got to the part about christmas movies.
AND THAT'S IT!!
of course, there's no yuletide spirit in me! I HAVEN'T WATCH THE MUST-WATCH CHRISTMAS MOVIES YET!
haha call me a movie buff, i don't care. christmas movies are always the best :)

haven't watch home alone, that's for sure. young macaulay culkin is just irresistible. :p
but the one movie that i (and all yous out there) must must must must must watch is...

wait for it...

love, actually

it is the most awesome romantic / christmas movie eveeeerr!! i mean come on, you can watch it for both valentine AND christmas. how cool is that?? hahah.

here's a clip:

oh oh and this:

yeah yeah that and this too!:

ok no more vids. i'm giving u the spoilers haha. go watch it on your own :p
eergh, i wonder when it's gonna be on hbo or star movies. coz i lost the DVD. NOOOOOOOO!!!!

oh well. gonna ransack the dvd shelves. wish me luck on that ;p

merry christmas, everyone!
have an awesome one :)

Saturday, December 20, 2008 // 2:22 PM

i have to quote anya...
at times like this:

LIVING IN ASIA SUCKS MAJOR BALLS!!!

WTF WTF WTF??!!
I WANT THE MAINE TO COME TO MY HIGH SCHOOL!!

argh.
i hate this :(

Wednesday, December 17, 2008 // 7:48 PM
a a a yeah!

ok so before i start off...
I ORDERED OKTOMAT!
ooh yeah! can't wait till it comes. end of this month problly. it better get here before i depart to bali! aargh.

so anyways... i haven't got the chance to tell you about "the day after peace", jeremy gilley's journey to silence the guns. i spose u've heard about his journey to have a fixed calendar date for "international peace day". which was a success after give or take 2 years of effort. however his no.1 goal has yet been accomplished -- to have a global ceasefire. just one day that the guns are silenced and people are to pause and think of the damage done when those guns and missiles and rockets were fired.

and so his relentless journey is not done yet. so he set out to afghanistan with -- wait for it-- JUDE LAW. oh yeah people, isn't he just PERFECT??!! he's uber hot, charming and is all for peace! :D

ok so anyways, they both went to afghanistan, in order to give babies and toddlers in isolated villages immunization. now their villages is under constant threat of roadside bombs and attacks; it's also guarded by armies. it sounds pretty simple, why not just go to the village, give them the immunization and be done with it? well one thing i gotta say guys, IT'S FRIGGING AFGHANISTAN. there's no ordinary day there, ur life is on the line, constantly.

jeremy gilley and jude law approached a lot of people and officials, to help him silence the guns while their undergoing the operation (of giving immunization for kids). it was not easy, really -- what with the sceptics everywhere. i personally thought that he would not make it. i mean, it's a country that has never seen peace for over 30 years -- it seems rather utopian to not have a gun fired in afghanistan.

but he did it. he lobbied people and got lots of support and jeremy gilley along with UNICEF gave immunization to around 1.4 million children in afghanistan. even the taliban agreed to not disrupt their operation! plus, there was a gun handover on the 21st of september.

so i sat there in the theatre in total awe. i just can't believe that it happened. in afghanistan, a place where i thought hope no longer existed and peace is a mere utopian dream. afghanistan where your life is under constant threat. but for one day, in afghanistan, the guns were muffled. and children got what they needed -- immunization. it's amongst one of the things i take for granted nowadays.

i just need one word to describe jeremy gilley's relentless effort.
amazing.

i really thought that peace is really beyond the horizon. well i tell you what people, it isn't. if we all take a stand and do whatever it is we can to create peace... it's definitly within our grasp.

it's possible, guys.
i mean, in a place as devastating as afghanistan, the guns were silenced.

so, quoting the ever-so-famous adidas tag line: impossible is nothing.
peace is not impossible.

:)
cheers.

$*&*(^(@#*&#!!#@??

stupid stuff always hinders me for writing nice long rich-vocabed meaningful posts.
this time it's the freakin' report card. i can't open it!! the anxiety is killing meeee!! argh stupid binus with their so-called sophisticated java script bullshitzzzz.

well on the bright side. it stalls my parents for knowing my possibly-god-awful grades.
oh yeaaahzzz!!

wat am i ranting about this is insane. it's a holiday and i'm going to enjoy it!!
oh yeaaah!!

cya! :)

Thursday, December 11, 2008 // 1:26 PM
a pretty loooooooong post ;)

yeah it's gonna be quite long. i havent told much stories, though i have a lot to share. sharing's fun, no?

ok to start off...
MY LAPTOP'S BACK!! YAAAYYY!!
right, i havent told the full story yet. so yeah, i spilled water all over my laptop. i know, stupid right?? i have a problem with water and gadgets. and, no i dont want to get started on that. :S
so it was spilled with water then the keyboard wouldnt work. as the keyboard wouldnt work i couldnt sign in to windows. and yeah. its. blptt. dead.

i cried.
then called the technician guy.
AND NOW IT'S FIXED!!!
YAAAAYYYY!!!

alright, next thing on the list of today's post is... well what i've been up to this holiday.

and as is other december holidays, a rush of nostaligia and a little dose of dejavu hits me. yeah, i hang out with my ex-PSKD friends lately. last monday i went out to PS with caren feli tessa timmy darian mansya moshe agung and op. it was really nice meeting them all. some people change some stay the same. all the while, they're still my friends, though we havent talked in AGES.

then just yesterday, i visited PSKD and watched their christmas performance. i was sooo jealous that they actually have a proper stage with lights and friggin' smoke machines! hahaha. and all we got when we had our so called performance is friggin' matresses. man, that sucks.

but hey, they sing the same songs we did years ago. it cracked me up a little bit. i guess some things just never change, huh? ;p

it was really nice visiting... i met old teachers and old friends. oh, and visited the new middle and high school building. which i find awesome. haha, the place is not so bad after all, i spose :)
it's really, really nice to be able to get together again. even though it's only for a few hours and once a year :S
it's kinda sad that we can't meet each other that often anymore and that we've all gone our seperate ways. it's been what, 5 years ago since we were in the same school?? we've come a long way... haha

well, i guess i'm not going to hesitate to fill myself up with nostalgia. a few laughs about the past would be more than awesome ;)

PS: ok, this may not be a long post after all. so, yeah wtv. :P

ginormous karmic reaction (otherwise known as a student's denial over her bad econs score -- extremely dramatic)

yeah so THAT is exactly what happens. and yes, i do believe in karma the way peter pan believes in fairies. i do think that THIS is because KARMA. THIS being me getting a BAD BAD score in eco. it's by far the worst i've gotten =S arrgh no i hate this.

so it's problly because i did something bad before the test. some people might no what i'm talking about, but if you dont, dont make me say it coz i'm not going to and that's that.

AAARGGHHH!!!

right ok, i wanted to make a post about 'the day after peace' the next installment of jeremy gilley's journey to silence the guns -- but then KARMA kicks my ass. bummer. so maybe later. :S

so maybe you guys might think that i'm simply blaming karma on my bad score and not the possiblity of me being extremely lazy the night before and watched discovery travel and living instead in rama's house when we were supposed to study. ok so the discovery travel part was true but i really didnt think i was THAT lazy! i studied and made notes! I DID!!

so yeah.
i still blame karma

you continue to amaze me :)

"Take a minute to learn me,
fake a moment to love me,
because I need your love to live,
and without it,
I am nothing."
from alex gaskarth's poem: Manage Me.

I gotta agree with you, chel. Gaskarth continues to amaze me with his words. his words seems so true and... there's just something to it that makes me read it again and again; as if once is not enough. or it never reached enough.

oh my other recent craves is snow patrol. I just realized that their songs are sooo amazing. hands open is my personal favorite. I'm not to keen on their newest album though, A Hundred Million Suns. but Eyes Open, their previous album was marvelous!

well i'm getting drowsy.
ciao!

"With my hands open
and my eyes open
and I keep hoping
that your heart opens
...
I wanna to hear you laugh like you really mean it
Collapse into me tired with joy"

-Snow Patrol; Hands Open

finally :)

yeah, holiday's here. i can daaaynce all night long! woot woot.
ok that was just me expressing the excitement haha.

so anyways, despite the excitement, i'm kinda dissapointed that jiffest only runs for 5 days this year. curse u economic crisis. there's just so many incredible movies screened yet so little time. i really wanted to watch world's apart, but noooo! i can't coz i've made other plans prior to the fact that i know jiffest runs for only 5 days. it's suppose to be an incredibly awesome movie judging from the synopsis. aaaggghhh! :(

but well at least holiday's here. and so is my long lost friends! hahaha. can't wait to meet ya fel jul care!! and of course other ex-PSKD friends too! it's been too long since i've seen them :)

well seeing as i've got nothing important to say.
i'll go now.

enjoy the holidays people!!

bloody insomnia

i get insomniac before dreadful tests. and maths the dreadfulest (is this even a word?)
God, help me. =S

oh, feli and julia are here already! (i think)
can't wait for all this to be over and meet people!
i'm dying to actually socialise. :p
